An overhaul is the deepest clean. Technicians completely dismantle the indoor and outdoor units, clean each component separately, and inspect worn parts such as capacitors, bearings and gaskets. Helpling suggests one every 3 to 5 years (Helpling, Feb 2026).
What it costs
Helpling publishes a chemical overhaul from S$160 a unit (9k to 18k BTU), S$180 (24k BTU) and S$350 for a ceiling unit (Helpling price list); its February 2026 guide gives S$150 to S$250 a unit generally (Helpling).

Is a chemical overhaul worth it?
For a unit that has gone a year or more without servicing, or that still smells or leaks after a wash, an overhaul cleans parts a wash cannot reach. For a regularly serviced unit, a wash is usually enough.
